    $149.95 ea.

Baltimore & Ohio 'The Columbian'

The Baltimore & Ohio Columbian was advertised as an overnight all-coach train, but it did include an 8-section, 4 double bedroom sleeping car between Pittsburgh and Chicago. Eastbound the Columbian departed Chicago’s Grand Central Station at 3:50pm, 25 minutes ahead of the more well-known Capitol. The two trains combined in Washington, DC and arrived in Jersey City, NJ 1:45pm the next day. The westbound train left the Central New Jersey Terminal at 11:55am and traveled over CNJ tracks to Bound Brook, NJ before transferring to Reading tracks for the journey to Philadelphia. At Philadelphia, the train was finally on B&O trackage and headed for Washington. Ten minutes behind the Capitol, the Columbian left the District of Columbia at 4:40pm and arrived in Chicago at 7:20am the following morning.

The K-LINE E-8s have plenty of brawn to power the train from our nation’s capital through the Midwest. Both A Units are powered and feature Lionel RailSounds, TrainMaster Command Control and Electrocouplers for the ultimate in realistic operation. These diesels, as well as the dummy B Unit sold separately, have operating smoke units, which is currently all the rage in diesel operation. The Columbian 21 inch aluminum passenger cars are superior to any other passenger cars available. They feature fully-furnished interiors with figures, patented overhead StreamLighting, hidden uncoupling mechanism and opening doors. These beautiful blue and gray cars are a must have for any fan of the B&O.
