K2437-0106

The Kennecott RS-3 is based on a prototypical diesel that was an important part of the copper operation near Ely, Nevada. Copper ore was hauled out of the one-mile long and 900 foot deep Eureka-Liberty pit, the largest open-pit mine in the world. At the Copper Flat Yard near the top of the pit, trains were assembled for the short trip to the McGill Reduction Plant and Smelter. The Alco-built RS-3s handled many of the eight trains a day that traveled this route. On an average day, between 300 and 350 carloads of ore were delivered to the plant, resulting in 3 carloads of copper. Engine number 109 now resides, and leads excursion trains, at the Nevada Northern Railway Museum, located near the site of mining operations.

This engine features Lionel TrainMaster Command Control for the ultimate in Remote Control train operation. In addition to standard operational features, TMCC controls the Lionel RailSounds digital sound system, electrocouplers and smoke on this feature-laden diesel. This engine is available in two road numbers for an expanding copper mining operation. Order this KCC exclusive engine today.
