K6252-8011   Keystone Coal Company Die Cast 2-Bay Hopper w/Blue Coal
    K-LINE Collector's Club Member Exclusive. $40.00
K6252-8011

We announced a new 2-Bay Die Cast Hopper in the 2002 Second Edition Catalog and we wanted to offer an exclusive road name to K-LINE Collector?s Club Members. We dug deep in the annals of railroad history and discovered the Keystone Coal Company.

The Keystone Coal Company was a little known producer and transporter of anthracite coal. It was a very long burning coal and was considered a good investment for heating if you could afford the cash investment to carry the inventory in your basement. It had fewer emissions than soft coal, though it was considerably more expensive per ton.

Many coal companies branded their coal with colorful names and painted the coal the same color. The best known variety of anthracite was Blue Coal, partially through its sponsorship of ?The Shadow? radio show.

This smooth sided hopper features a peaked end at one end and an off-set end at the other. It also comes in 4 individual road numbers, you can string these cars along your railroad.

Even though the text reads: "We dug deep in the annals of railroad history and discovered the Keystone Coal Company. The Keystone Coal Company did not ever exist, it is something I made up to fit the KCC intials. I was trying to come up with KCC products that fit the initals that were not Kennecott Copper Company related. Keystone Chemicals is another company I made up and was used on K-Line rolling stock.
