The United States was celebrating its 200th Birthday the last time the American Freedom Train rolled down the rails. The Freedom Train traveled 25,833 miles, through all 48 contiguous states, over 21 months and more than 7 million visitors viewed its 512 artifacts that represented the heritage of this great land of ours. With the cooperation of Museum of the American Freedom Trains, K-LINE’s highly detailed and accurate model of the Freedom Train arrives at a time when Americans are proud to display their patriotism and love of country.

Most people are familiar with the public part of the train, however, nearly half the train was dedicated to operations, including these four crew cars. Car #201, originally from the Southern Pacific, was a sleeping car for the few members of the crew that traveled on the train. The rest of the crew traveled by bus or private autos. Car #202 was a combo/dining car, affectionately known as “The Pie Car.” This converted combine had a cooking area in one part and an eating area in the other part. Cars #203 and #204, both converted coaches, were used for crew relaxation. #203 was a parlor car and #204 was an entertainment car. Cars #202-205 (three crew cars plus the observation) were originally part of the Preamble Express, which scouted the AFT route in 1974.

With patriotism running high, there is no better way to show pride in America than with this model of the American Freedom Train.
